Savory Stuffed Peppers: A Flavorful Twist on a German Classic 🌶️🍲
I hope this post finds you ready for a delightful journey into the heart of German home cooking. Last night's dinner was a spontaneous creation born out of fridge exploration and culinary curiosity. I stumbled upon some vibrant bell peppers and ground beef in my freezer and immediately knew it was time to craft a classic German dish: Stuffed Peppers.
Here's a simple yet delicious recipe that captures the essence of German comfort food.
Ingredients:
Bell peppers (one per person)
Ground beef (or pork, or a combination)
Onion
Garlic
Egg
Breadcrumbs or panko
Salt and pepper
Optional: Onion powder, Italian herbs, Aleppo pepper (other spices that delight your taste buds)
For the Pan Sauce:
Chicken stock
Tomato paste
Sundried tomatoes in oil (or sliced fresh tomatoes)
Cream
Corn starch
Instructions:
Combine all ingredients for the meat mixture, ensuring a well-mixed and seasoned stuffing.
Stuff each pepper generously with the meat mixture.
In a large pot, heat a bit of oil, and fry the stuffed peppers for a few minutes until lightly browned.
Add chicken stock, tomato paste, and sundried or fresh tomatoes. Cover and simmer for 20-25 minutes until the meat is cooked, and peppers are soft.
While the peppers cook, boil baby potatoes in salted water until tender.
For the Pan Sauce:
Once the peppers are done, remove them from the pot.
Mix a teaspoon of corn starch with cold cream, then stir it into the sauce to thicken.
Taste and adjust seasoning to your liking.
Serve the savory stuffed peppers with the luscious pan sauce alongside boiled potatoes for a truly satisfying meal.
Bon Appétit! If you decide to give this German classic a try, I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Let's keep Rocking The Kitchen, my friend!
Love,
Kerstin
