Embrace the Journey: Cooking with the Four Agreements
In all I do, both personally and in business, I strive to live by the Four Agreements, a practical guide to personal freedom written by Don Miguel Ruiz. If you're not familiar with the Four Agreements, here's a quick overview:
Be impeccable with your word.
Don't take anything personally.
Don't make assumptions.
Always do your best.
These principles have profoundly impacted my life, business and ventures in the kitchen. In particular, Agreement #4 – "Always do your best" – resonates deeply with me.
When it comes to cooking, doing your best doesn't mean achieving perfection every time. It means putting in your best effort, embracing the learning process, and being kind to yourself when things don't go as planned. Progress over perfection is my mantra in the kitchen (and in business).
Whenever I try a new recipe or technique, I remind myself that it's okay if it doesn't turn out perfectly. What matters is that I gave it my best shot. If a dish doesn't work out as hoped, I don't beat myself up. Instead, I take it as a learning opportunity. I figure out where I might have gone wrong, make notes, and try again another time.
Becoming a great home chef and truly understanding the ins and outs of cooking is a journey, not a destination. It's a path filled with trials and triumphs, and each experience contributes to your growth and mastery.
I encourage you to adopt this mindset in your culinary endeavors. If you struggle with the occasional kitchen mishap, focus on the progress you're making rather than the perfection you haven't yet achieved. Celebrate your successes and view your setbacks as valuable lessons that will make you a better cook in the long run.
Remember, the joy of cooking lies in the journey, the creativity, and the love you pour into your food. So, embrace your culinary journey with the Four Agreements in mind, and let's keep rocking the kitchen together. Progress over perfection, my friend!
I hope this blog inspires and encourages you to keep striving for your best in the kitchen and in life. Let's keep rocking the kitchen together, one delicious dish at a time!
Love,
Kerstin
